MLBPA App- The App that MLB players use to check on their benefits, contracts, and even dispute previous plays.
The deployment of MLBPA app version 3.0 aimed to enhance the whole user experience while ensuring seamless access to critical information. The project focused on minimizing downtime during the upgrade, maintaining functionality of existing APIs, and ensuring a smooth transition for users. This project also focused on enhancing the digital platform for the Major League Baseball Players Association, serving both Major and Minor League players. As the Product Manager, my objective was to ensure the app's upgrade aligned with the union's broad representation goals.
The primary challenge was upgrading the app to a more efficient version without disrupting access to critical union information. It was essential to maintain uninterrupted service, ensure compatibility of existing functionalities, and handle the transition of a diverse user base to the new version without any loss of data or functionality.
The solution entailed a multi-faceted approach. First, we developed a comprehensive deployment strategy minimizing downtime. We maintained parallel operability of both v1 and v2 APIs to ensure continuous service. A robust communication plan was implemented to guide users through the transition, supplemented by extensive support and feedback mechanisms. Additionally, we established a phased rollout to monitor and address any issues promptly
The deployment was successful with minimal downtime and high user satisfaction. The new app version was well-received, marked by an increase in user engagement and positive feedback. Lessons Learned and Future Steps: The experience highlighted the importance of thorough planning, risk assessment, and stakeholder communication in app deployment. Future steps include continuous monitoring, user feedback evaluation, and iterative improvements based on data-driven insights.
